Azure Security Best Practices for 2026

PNPriya Nair· VP, Security & Compliance May 8, 2026 7 min read

Azure gives you powerful security tools, but they only help if configured well. These are the practices that matter most for protecting Azure workloads.

The essentials

  • Enforce MFA and conditional access on all identities
  • Apply least privilege with Entra PIM for admin roles
  • Enable Microsoft Defender for Cloud and act on its recommendations
  • Segment networks and use NSGs and private endpoints
  • Store secrets in Key Vault, never in code or config

We harden Azure environments to these standards and monitor them continuously.
